AGE IS NO BARRIER…
Our thanks to Cathy and the Pro Shop for this wonderful club member story.
A little background on Howard Vippond, for those of you who do not know Howard, the word that is used most synonymously with him is “gentleman”.
Let’s set the scene….1st round of the Championships, “young” Howard takes to the 1st tee, plunges it into the trees on the left, duffs the chip etc, etc, etc…..
2nd hole blocks the tee shot on to the 6th fairway, 3rd hole lost his ball. Are you starting to get a picture of how this round is going? (The boys tell me he didn’t swear once….)
Well think again, after sinking a huge putt on the 18th hole Howard finished with a wonderful “89” off the stick! 65 nett! 5 shots better than anyone in C grade. The best thing about all this is Howard is only 89 years “young”! We at the club think this is a very special achievement and would like to congratulate Howard on a super effort.
